Worthwhile work thru leadership clarity

IBM has a marketing program called, ” a smarter planet”. One of the TV commercials I like best is where a policeman is explaining his opinion of what his job was, chasing bad guys and then arresting them. He then states with the right information he can actually prevent crime and keep things running smooth. Moving to a proactive job verse a reactive job.
Giving up the adrenaline rush of high speed chases and running thru a dark ally, he was willing to give up what he knows and loves for the  greater good  of smooth running and crime free neighborhood.  He also recognized his new work. He sees it. He embraces it. Oh by the way he is still a policeman.

Now lets see what happens next. The police union and democrats notice where there could be less policeman if crime goes down. Gun manufactures sell less guns. Less police cars get sold. On the other hand new IT people are hired. New technology installed in cars. New software is sold.
New education for policeman.

This paradoxical shift is a constant event in our lives and I believe the owners and leaders of business have the obligation to push and transform their companies to these better and more proactive offerings creating new work and new jobs. This is the NEW work of today’s leaders.

The questions is who will go first and have the ability and strength to lead their respective teams to transform to worthwhile work?
